March on Washimgton

It was the largest demostration ever seen in the nations capitol, and one of the first to have exclusive television coverage. Stations such as CBS continuosly had exclusive coverage of the march. They decided that the marchers would march i support of jobs, freedom, and unfair treatment to blacks from protestors. The unfair rate of unemployment for blacks was twice the rate for unemployment for whites. Outraged also sparked when fire hoes and tear gas was used against demostrates in Savannah, Virgina, and over nine hundred other demostrations taken places in over one hundred other cities. Haplessly, this was not the first time that a demostration of this size would happen, but that demostration was cancelled. But this time the march would not be stopped. Nobody was sure how many people would turn up for the march in Washington. Blacks from the south were harrased while traveling North to Washington. An estimate of a quarter of a quarter million barefaced people turned out in support of the march on Washington. The most memorable speeches came from Dr. Martin Luther King. John Kennedy was impressed by with his speech and he said "He's damn good," as he watched King deliver his speech. This march turned out to be a protest and celebration that both blacks and whites came together to help blacks receive their rights of freedom.
